Re-Inventing Education: From Addressing Symptoms to Causes

Covid-19 obliged schools and universities to pivot online overnight, often with poor learning outcomes. As education institutions embrace the new normal, many of them are looking at technological solutions to upgrade and reinvent themselves, often addressing the symptoms of what plagues education rather than the underlying fundamental reasons. Instead, institutions should take a closer look at issues such as teaching cross-contextual skills (that do not expire with the latest technologies and allow graduates to thrive after graduation) and assessments that evaluate real knowledge rather than information retention. These issues could be solved partially by technology, which becomes a tool rather than an end.
