Whose Language; Whose Standard? Linguistic Diversity in International Education

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

As we grapple with issues around diversity, equity, and inclusion in international schools, we must also start asking hard questions about our approaches to language, and to interrogate how the lens of privilege in education allows us to look away from linguistic discrimination in our schools.
This talk will draw on sociolinguistic research and paradigms to help frame and examine inter- and intra-linguistic hierarchies in international school communities. Participants will reflect on their contexts and consider how these support or challenge dominant language hierarchies, and what ‘next step’ they can take to shift attitudes and practice around languages in their schools.
