What does it mean to be an advocate for gender equity? How does an understanding of one's power, privilege and positionality help us make informed decisions? This session will explore what being an advocate entails and how we show up as educator professionals committed to a more gender-equitable world. Walk away with perspectives on diversity, intersectionality and how you can leverage power to make a difference as an advocate.

Women in schools are the majority of the workforce globally, yet are disproportionally represented in leadership roles, especially as senior leaders. Women leaders also take longer to gain senior roles, are paid less for similar roles and flexible working practices are not seen as usual in many schools. The pace of change to the systemic issues which affect us is glacial so WomenEd is now disrupting the status quo. We want to innovate and bring about change to some key processes including job adverts, application forms or CVs, interviews, and professional learning opportunities.

The business case for diversity increases daily. It used to be a moral issue, now it makes financial sense. But what is the evidence for this? Why should your organisation become more diverse and how can it be achieved in this VUCA world?
