Developing Future System Leaders in a VUCA World
Critical thinking, complex problem solving, and creativity are among the most cited future skills, due to their promotion by the World Economic Forum in their Future of Jobs Report. Yet their findings predate the global pandemic, the war in Europe, and worsening climate crisis that are shaping the perceptions of young people about the future. In a world best described as volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA), systems thinking is the critical skill to acquire today but systems leadership is what we need to develop in our young people for the future. This session explores the «why » and the «how » of developing future systems leaders.

Transport Skills as Important Daily Living Activities
Non-specific aerobic fitness seems to be a very important player in brain development. During aerobic activities such as jogging, walking, or free playing the production of neurotrophic factors responsible for growing of neural networks increased. Therefore, current research has pointed out that transport and play activities significantly contribute not only to long-term active life but also to school academic achievement. The aim of this workshop would be to put light on these associations by emphasizing the necessity of transport activities during childhood.

Culture Counts: Welcoming the World to Our Classrooms
At Institut Le Rosey, myself, students and other colleagues developed a "Culture Week": a week to help us become more cognisant of our cultural differences. During this talk, I will be joined by students who helped to construct the week and we will share some of our insights on why internationalising the curriculum matters and how we all should take further action to become more inclusive in our learning environments.

Re-Inventing Education: From Addressing Symptoms to Causes
Covid-19 obliged schools and universities to pivot online overnight, often with poor learning outcomes. As education institutions embrace the new normal, many of them are looking at technological solutions to upgrade and reinvent themselves, often addressing the symptoms of what plagues education rather than the underlying fundamental reasons. Instead, institutions should take a closer look at issues such as teaching cross-contextual skills (that do not expire with the latest technologies and allow graduates to thrive after graduation) and assessments that evaluate real knowledge rather than information retention. These issues could be solved partially by technology, which becomes a tool rather than an end.
